Officers locate 2 loaded firearms and narcotics during traffic stop

•    29800(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Two Counts)
•    30305(a)(1) PC – Illegal Possession of Ammunition
•    11370.1(a) H&S – Possession of Controlled Substance while Armed with a Loaded Firearm
•    11377(A) H&S – Possession of Methamphetamine 
SUSPECT:   Gallagos, Carlos – 49-year-old, Pomona resident
                   
NARRATIVE: 
On Saturday, January 28, 2023; Officers from Pomona Police Department's, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) were in the area of Phillips St and White Ave when they observed a vehicle commit numerous vehicle code violations. Officers conducted an enforcement stop and asked for the assistance of a K9 Officer. K9 Bari completed a narcotic detection search of the vehicle in search of illegal odor not accessible by the human nose and alerted on several areas throughout the interior cabin. 

Officers checked the areas which K9 Bari had alerted and located two loaded handguns. The passenger of the vehicle, Gallagos, admitted to possessing the firearms. Gallagos is a previously convicted felon and prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition. 

Gallagos was placed under arrest and a bag containing methamphetamine was located in his pants pocket prior to being transported to the Pomona City Jail.

The Pomona Police Department’s, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) is a specialized unit within the police department that is responsible for suppressing gang violence, investigating drug offenses, and pursuing wanted persons. The team is comprised of two supervisors and four officers, supplemented by patrol officers.
