Police Seek the Public’s Help in Identifying Auto Theft Suspect
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help in identifying the below-pictured male suspect and vehicle in connection with an auto theft that occurred on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
Just before 2:35 a.m., Police responded to a business in the 1400 block of McCarter Highway on a call of an auto theft. A male suspect arrived at the location in an older model silver Honda Civic Coup bearing gold and silver BBS rims, a For Sale sign on the interior passenger-side windshield, and a white sticker on the rear passenger-side window. The suspect exited the passenger side of the Honda, approached a black 2015 Chevy Suburban with tinted windows parked at the location, and used an object to break the rear driver-side window. The suspect then fled in the stolen Suburban, heading north on McCarter Highway.
Detectives investigating this incident seek the public’s help in identifying this suspect, described as heavy-set with long dread locs or long hair and a beanie-style hat. He was wearing a white shirt, dark-colored jacket, light-colored jeans, and black shoes.
Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
