The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from January 16th to January 21st 2023.
 
 
January 16th
Stolen Vehicle and Hit and Run – 6400 block of Hagen Blvd.
At approximately 6:44 am, two suspects stole the victim’s vehicle, by pushing it down the hill towards Knott Ave. The victim’s husband received a motion alert on their video surveillance camera, went outside and scared the suspects off.  The suspects got into a dark colored sedan and fled eastbound on Knott Ave.  As the suspects fled, they pushed the victim’s vehicle, into a parked GMC SUV, causing minor damage to both vehicles. 

Auto Burglary – 900 block of King Dr.
An unknown suspect opened the unlocked door to the victim’s vehicle and stole a medical work bag containing patient medical records. The victim checked their video surveillance footage and noticed that the incident occurred on January 15th at approximately 5:30 am.

Grand Theft – 1000 block of Navellier St.
At approximately 6:23 am, the victim heard sawing noises and saw a light under her parked Toyota Prius.  The victim checked her vehicle and saw that the catalytic converter was stolen. 

Grand Theft – El Dorado Ave at San Pablo Ave.
 An unknown suspect stole the victim’s catalytic converter from their grey Toyota Prius. The incident occurred on 1/15/23, between 5:00 pm to 1/16/23 at 11:00 am. 

Vandalism – 2700 block Del Monte Ave.
At approximately 5:00 am, an unknown suspect shattered the rear sliding glass door to the victim’s residence, with an unknown object.
 
Evading / Hit and Run – Eastshore Blvd / San Pablo Ave
On January 16th, at 0318 hours, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for no front license plate.  The DMV hit came back with one lost or stolen plate.  The vehicle was a white 2005 Infinity 4-door sedan.  The vehicle failed to yield and ran the red light at Eastshore/Potrero as it entered onto I-80 WB at a high rate of speed.  The Infinity had lost control, spun out and the rear of the vehicle collided into a tree as it entered onto the I-80 westbound onramp.  Two suspects fled on foot from the vehicle along the sound wall.  Both suspects jumped over the sound wall onto S. 55th St near Creely Ave and eluded capture.

January 17th
Theft of Mail – 2600 block Arlington Blvd.
At 9:07 am an unknown suspect stole the victim’s mail from their mailbox while they were out of town on vacation.

Petty Theft – Verizon 410 El Cerrito Plaza
At approximately 9:42 am, the suspect returned a game console controller.  After his money was reimbursed on his credit card, the suspect became upset, argued with the employee and left the store with the game console controller.    

Petty Theft – 1500 block of Liberty St.
The victim never received the license plates in the mail for their vehicle which they bought in late 2022.  They believed they may have been stolen in the mail. 

Petty Theft – 7500 block of Terrace Dr.
An unknown suspect stole the rear license plate to the victim’s vehicle.  The theft occurred from January 16th at 8:00 am to January 17th at 12:05 pm.

Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS)
At 2042 hours, officers were investigating an unrelated call at the business when they were flagged down by loss prevention regarding a theft that an hour prior.  The suspect entered the store and selected several personal body accessories and left without paying.  The suspect fled in a red sedan NFD.  Total loss was $686. 
 
January 18th
Stolen Vehicle – 1300 Block of Linda Vista Dr.
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s grey Mercedes C300 this morning between the hours of 2:15 am and 8:10 am.

Attempt Carjacking– 11319 San Pablo Ave (Chevron)
At 12:07 pm, an officer reports two unidentified suspects attempted to carjack the victim at the gas pumps.  The victim fought back, with help from a witness, and the suspects fled the scene. 

Shoplifting – 11555 San Pablo Ave (DD’s Discount)
At 2044 hours, officers were dispatched to a subject who entered the business and selected several clothing items and fled the store without paying towards BART.  Total loss, $40.00

Robbery – 3300 Block of Santa Clara Ave
At 0318 hours, Officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Santa Clara Ave.  The victim was woken by the sound of sawing noises.  When the victim went outside to check, he was met by a suspect holding a gold handgun.  The second suspect was underneath his Toyota Prius cutting the catalytic converter.  The victim went back inside his residence and called 911.  The suspects fled in an older model gold Honda Accord 4-door or similar northbound on Santa Clara Ave.  Total loss, $1,000.00.

January 19th
Petty Theft- 400 Block of Kearney St.
At 1:19 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the rear license plate from the victim’s vehicle.  The theft occurred in between 0800-1600 hours on 1/18/2023.

Stolen Vehicle- 5000 Block of Cypress Ave.
At 3:30 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2002 Cadillac Escalade. The theft occurred at 0300 hours, and was captured on video.

Grand Theft- 3000 Block of Belmont Ave.
At 3:14 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s catalytic converter from the victim’s Toyota Prius. The theft occurred sometime between 1/18@1600 hours and 1/19@1200 hours.

January 20th
Grand Theft – 11225 San Pablo Ave. (Rockin’ Robbie’s Music):
At 10:25 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the store on two occasions, 1/3/2023 and 1/6/2023, and presented receipts for online orders of guitars.  On both occasions, the suspect took possession of the guitars.  On 1/17/2023, the store received a notification the credit card transactions for both purchases had been reversed by the credit card company as fraudulent.  The store was left without the money or the guitars.  Total loss was approximately $1800 between the two transactions.

Grand Theft-7400 Block of Seaview Pl. 
At 4:50 AM, an officer reports three suspects stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s Toyota Prius.
 
Petty Theft – 1700 block of Liberty St:
At 12:39 PM, an officer took a lobby report for theft of packages totaling $145 from the residence, at 0220 hours on 1/19/2023.  The theft was captured on video.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – IFO 225 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1:07 PM, an unidentified suspect attempted to run the victim down with her car after a road rage incident that was repeatedly escalated by both involved parties.  Suspect vehicle was described as a maroon Nissan Altima driven by a black female, last seen toward San Pablo Ave.

Identity Theft – 2000 block of Key Blvd:
At 1:47 PM, an officer took a telephone report of identity theft after the victim was unable to make an online report.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 6700 Fairmount Ave (R&R Auto):
At 3:03 PM, an officer recovered a 2020 Vespa scooter reported stolen to Albany PD on 1/19/2023.  Released to owner at scene.  Removed from SVS.

Residential Burglary – 500 block of Liberty Street:
At 4:31 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the residence by removing the window screen and opening an unlocked window sometime between 8:00 PM on 1/17/2023 and time of call today.  The only known take was $200 cash.

January 21st
Vehicle Theft – 3200 block of Carlson Blvd:
At 2:22 PM, an officer reports a black 2020 Nissan Maxima rental car was stolen between 11:45 PM on 1/19/2023 and 7:00 AM on 1/20/2023.

Tampering with a Vehicle- 600 Block of Ashbury Ave. 
At 9:50 PM, an officer reports the victim heard sawing noises coming from in front of his house. The victim went outside and noticed a subject standing next to his vehicle. The subject fled the area after seeing the victim. The victim checked his vehicle and discovered there was damage to the exhaust pipe near the catalytic converter.
 
Warrant Arrest- San Pablo Ave. and Manila Ave. 
At 2:24 AM, an officer noticed two subjects in a verbal dispute. Officers contacted both subjects and discovered there was a dispute over marijuana. During a records check, one of the subjects was found to have an active no bail warrant out of Alameda County Warrant. The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
