The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from January 22nd to January 28th 2023.

January 22nd

Arson- 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave. 
At 3:55 AM, El Cerrito Fire Department requested police assistance after they were dispatch to a fire in a locked bathroom. An unknown suspect lit several pieces of paper on fire and left them in the sink and trashcan. There was no damage.
 
January 23rd  
Vehicle Theft – 7500 block of Rockway Ave:
At 8:24 AM, an officer reports a white Ford box truck was once again stolen from the street sometime overnight. 
 
Warrant Arrest – Potrero Ave / S. 53rd St:
At 12:50 PM, an officer arrested on a CDCR parole warrant during a pedestrian stop.  Booked at ECPD then to county jail.
 
Battery - IFO Ross,11565 San Pablo Ave. 
At 6:12 PM, an officer reports a Lyft driver picked up two passengers in Richmond who wanted to go to Del Norte BART. While driving the passengers requested to be driven to Oakland. When the victim advised them he was not allowed to drive them to Oakland, one of the passengers started punching the victim in the face with her fists. Upon arrival at the Del Norte BART, both passengers exited the vehicle and walked southbound towards Hill St.
 
Warrant Arrest- 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave. 
At 11:12 PM, officers were dispatch to a residence for a disturbance detail. During the investigation, officers discovered one of the involved subjects had an active warrant out of Alameda County. The subject was transported to the El Cerrito PD for booking and issued a citation and released.

January 24TH
Armed Robbery – Sketchers 5805 Cutting Blvd. (parking lot)
In the early morning hours, the suspect robbed the victim, while in the Sketchers parking lot.  The suspect cut the victim in the head, several times with a box cutter.  The suspect stole the victims bicycle and three bags containing the victim’s personal belongings. The victim was transported to the hospital for his injuries.

Vandalism – NEK Insurance 11481 San Pablo Ave.
An unknown suspect spray painted graffiti on the north wall of business.

Vandalism – UPS Store 11461 San Pablo Ave.
On January 22nd, at approximately 9:50am, a suspect kicked the front glass door to the business and shattered it.   The store had video surveillance camera footage and the investigating officer recognized the suspect from previous police contacts.

Attempted Theft from the Vehicle – 600 block of Albemarle St.
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle last night, rummaged through the interior, but did not steal anything.

Violation of Restraining Order – 900 block of Shevlin Dr.
At approximately 1:22pm, officers arrest the suspect of after she entered her ex-partners residence attempting to retrieve her mail.  The victim has an active restraining order against the suspect.  The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.    
 
Rape of Intoxicated Person – 11000 block of San Pablo Ave. 
On Sunday January 22nd, at approximately 3:15pm, the victim went to the suspect’s residence to watch football.  After drinking some alcohol with the suspect, the victim remembers waking up at 5 hours later.  The victim left the residence that evening, but the next day, complained of vaginal pain. The victim went to the hospital to be examined.   

Warrant Arrest- 6600 Central Ave.
At 9:21pm, officers were dispatch to an unwanted subject. Upon arrival, officers contacted the subject and conducted a warrants check. The subject was found to have an active Alameda County Warrant.  After booking, the subject was transported to the MDF.

Organized Retail Theft- Ross, 2000 El Cerrito Plaza 
At 8:59pm, an officer reports two suspects entered Ross and loaded a Ross shopping bag with $400 worth of merchandise. The subjects left the store without paying.
 
Shoplifting- Ross, 11545 San Pablo Ave.
At 8:21pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect left the store with a basket full of unpaid merchandise ($250).
 
January 25th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Yosemite Ave and San Diego St.
At 0807hrs, an officer recovered an unoccupied Ford box truck that was reported stolen to ECPD on 1/23/23.  The truck was released to the owner at the scene.

Trespassing – 2000 block of Key Blvd.
At approximately 8:41am, a homeowner confronted a suspect who was loitering in his backyard. The suspect towards the Ohlone Greenway prior to police arrival.

Auto Burglary – Richmond St. at Schmidt Ln.
At approximately 9:14am, a suspect shattered a window to a parked US Postal truck and stole mail.  The suspect fled in a white BMW four door, northbound on Everett St. 

Stolen Vehicle – 8600 block of Edgehill Ct.
The victims silver 2021 Honda Pilot was stolen sometime from 1/24 at 3pm to 1/25 at 9:45am.
 
Stolen Vehicle – 200 block of Behrens St.
The victims white 2014 Kia Forte was stolen some time from midnight to 3:30am.

Shoplift- Ross, 11565 San Pablo Ave. 
At 7:41am, an officer took a report of a theft at Ross. An hour later, the officer was patrolling in the area of Ross when he noticed a subject matching the description of the suspect from the theft. The officer contacted the subject and confirmed he was the same person from the theft earlier. During a records check, the officer discovered the subject is currently on probation out of Alameda County for possession of a firearm. The subject was issued a citation and released from the scene.
 
Strong Armed Robbery – Wells Fargo Bank (parking lot)
At approximately 1:46pm, while the victim was seated in her parked vehicle the suspect shattered her passenger side window and stole a backpack from the front seat.  The second victim was in the parking lot walking towards the front doors, when the same suspect approached her and ripped a tote bag off her shoulder.

Shoplift- Ross, 2000 El Cerrito Plaza 
At 8:09pm, officers were dispatch to Ross for two unwanted subjects that have stolen in the past. Upon arrival, store employees pointed out a subject who had just exited the store with unpaid merchandise ($60). Officers detained the subject and employees placed him under Citizen’s Arrest. The subject was issued a citation and released from the scene.
 
Grand Theft-800 Block of Norvell St
At 1:10am, an officer reports the victim heard sawing noises coming from the front of her house. When she went to investigate, she heard two subjects speaking to each other and standing next to her Prius. The victim yelled out to them to scare them off. The victim checked her vehicle and discovered the catalytic converter ($2500) had been stolen. The incident occurred at 0050 hours
 
January 26th
Arson – 6800 block of Cutting Blvd.
At approximately 12:10pm an unknown suspect set a portion of the victim’s backyard play structure on fire. 

January 27TH
Armed Robbery –11687 San Pablo Avenue (Valero): Officers were dispatched to a robbery at 1229 hours.  The suspects was reported to have been in possession of a firearm.  S-1 was described as a BMA in his 40s, wearing a blue hat with an orange brim, Pugs sunglasses (stolen), blue wind breaker with a grey hoody underneath, and blue jeans.  During the investigation it was discovered the incident occurred at 1139 hours. Loss is numerous self-care items and sunglasses.    

January 28TH
Traffic collision – Ohlone Trail/Waldo Avenue:  A cyclist was riding southbound on the Ohlone Trail and failed to stop for the stop sign at Waldo Avenue.  The cyclist met a Toyota Prius in the crosswalk as it traveled westbound on Waldo Avenue.  The cyclist broadsided the Prius and hit/shattered the windshield.
