Dangerously Cold Wind Chills Late Friday into Saturday:
Temperatures are set to plummet to single digits Friday into Saturday, with lows hitting negative temperatures when wind chill is factored in. Sustained winds are expected between 20-30 mph while wind gusts could reach 45mph.
Although it will be a brief arctic blast, after an unseasonably mild January, hypothermia is possible if proper precautions are not taken. Frostbite may occur in as little as 15 to 30 minutes on exposed skin. In addition, poorly insulated water lines along exterior walls could freeze and burst.
Please take cold weather precautions with your home and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors.
If your electricity goes out, please report the outage directly to Con Edison at 1-800-75CONED. If you observe other emergencies, such as power lines down, trees in the roadway, please report these to the North Castle Police Department at (914) 273-9500 or in an emergency by calling 911.
If you plan to use a generator, make sure that it is being used safely. Do not run a portable generator inside of your home or business; keep it outside and away from the house so that the exhaust does not cause anyone to become sick with carbon monoxide poisoning. Keep combustible materials away from the generator and, when refueling, turn it off and let it cool down. Additional generator safety tips are available HERE.
Please encourage your neighbors to sign up for Nixle alerts. Stay safe!
