Newark Fire Division Says: Put a Freeze on Winter Fires 
Heating is a leading cause of U.S. home fires and home fire injuries and the third leading cause of home fire fatalities.
December, January, and February are the peak months for heating fires. Space heaters are the type of equipment most often involved in home heating equipment fires, accounting for one-third of the fires, as well as the vast majority of deaths and injuries.
Follow these safety tips: 1. Be sure to turn space heaters off when you go to bed or leave the room, and 2. Keep anything that can burn at least 3-ft. away from space heaters.
