As a reminder:
In the event of life-threatening emergencies, dial 911.
To report downed wires, road blockages, and non-life-threatening issues, contact (914) 238-4422. Treat all downed wires as if they are live. Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by tree limbs, leaves, etc.
Please do not call the Police if you lose power. Calling the Police to report a power loss only serves to tie up emergency telephone lines. You will be referred to contact Con Edison directly at 1-800-75-CONED. Calling Con Edison enters your power loss into their computerized database. You can also report outages, view the map, and check outage status at www.conEd.com.
Avoid all fallen wires:
- You can't tell if a power line is energized just by looking at it. Assume all fallen power lines are live and proceed with extreme caution.
- Do not drive over fallen wires. Always follow utility personnel instructions regarding fallen power lines.
- If you see a fallen power line, stay at least 30 feet away from it and anything it contacts. The ground around a power line and any objects it contacts may be energized.
- Do not attempt to move a fallen power line or anything else in contact using an object such as a broom or stick. Even materials like wood or cloth can conduct electricity if even slightly wet.
