A woman suffered injuries from a stab wound after an unprovoked encounter with a man at the Shoprite of Absecon, 616 White Horse Pike.

Officers were called to the Shoprite just before 10:00 AM on February 4, 2023 for a report of an employee who had been stabbed. The victim, whose identity is being withheld, was rushed to the hospital with injuries. Investigators learned that the attack was unprovoked and there was no connection between the parties.

Responding officers immediately located the accused, Jason C. Wedderburn, 33, of Absecon nearby. He was taken into custody without incident.

The Absecon Police Department would like to give credit to Shoprite staff who assisted their fellow employee and also maintained crucial communication with responding officers.

CHARGES: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Weapons for Unlawful Purposes.

Wedderburn was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
