Shelby Man Charged with Murder 
Lt. Detective Jesse Hicks with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 45-year-old Jason Travis Atkins of Shelby with Murder. He is being held without bond.
On the night of Feb 6th, deputies responded to the Jacktown Rd. area for a reported shooting. They discovered an individual who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased. Deputies located the suspected shooter in a wooded area close to the scene a short time later. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
