Don’t be a victim of a romance scam!

This season of love don’t be a victim of a romance scam. Did you know romance scams have become far more complex and difficult to recognize, adapting to today’s online dating world? In the first half of 2021, the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center received over 1,800 complaints related to online romance scams, resulting in losses of approximately $133.4 million. If you think you are being tricked into a romance scam, try doing the following:
• Refuse to send money to someone you have never met in person
• Stop communicating with the person in question
• Talk with family members and trusted friends about your newest companion and listen to their concerns

For more information on preventative measures visit www.consumer.ftc.gov
If you think it’s a scam, report it to the Federal Trade Commission at https://ReportFraud.ftc.gov and notify the website or app where you met the scammer.

If you are in an online relationship, you should not send money. True love shouldn’t cost any money.
