On February 6, 2023, at approximately 8:27 p.m., Fremont police dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Niles Blvd and Hillview Dr. Fremont Police and Fire arrived on the scene and located the vehicles. 

A preliminary investigation revealed that vehicle one was traveling southbound on Niles Blvd approaching Hillview Dr. Vehicle two was traveling eastbound on Hillview Dr and making a left turn onto Niles Blvd. Vehicle one broadsided vehicle two on the driver’s side. The two vehicles then collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle. Vehicle one came to a rest on top of the east curb line. Vehicle two stopped against a residence, causing minor damage to the residence.

The driver of vehicle one, a 19-year-old male out of Fremont, extricated himself and sat near his vehicle. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby trauma center. The driver of vehicle two, a 53-year-old male out of Modesto, was extricated by the Fremont Fire Department. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers interviewed witnesses on the scene and canvassed the area for possible video evidence. It’s suspected that alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in this collision. This incident remains an active investigation, pending toxicology reports and search warrants for medical records.

This is Fremont’s 1^st fatal traffic collision in 2023.
