Flood Warning until 11:00PM Wednesday

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central Arkansas, eastern Arkansas and north central Arkansas, including the following counties, in central Arkansas, White. In eastern Arkansas, Jackson, Lawrence and Randolph. In north central Arkansas, Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Sharp and Stone.

* WHEN...Until 1100 PM CST.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 653 PM CST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Batesville, Newport, Heber Springs, Pocahontas, Walnut Ridge, Cherokee Village, Hoxie, Mountain View, Melbourne, Salem in Fulton County, Ash Flat, Black Rock, Lake Charles State Park, Horseshoe Bend, Cave City, Tuckerman, Diaz, Newark, Highland in Sharp County and Mammoth Spring.

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
