Phone Call Scam alert from New Brunswick Board of Education
The New Brunswick School System has reported that during the last few weeks, family members of students have received phone calls from unknown persons claiming that their child has been kidnapped, and the family must pay a large sum of money to the caller to get their child back. This is a PHONE SCAM and no children have been kidnapped. This is an attmept by the caller to extort money from unsuspecting family members. In each instance when these phone calls have been received, the child in question was safely in school.
If this happens to you or a family member, the following steps should be taken:
1. Save the phone number of the person that called you.
2. Contact the school immediately to confirm your child is in school.
3. Notify the New Brunswick Police Department to file a police report.
