Police Request Public’s Help Identifying Armed Robbery Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help with identifying the below-pictured suspect, who robbed a victim at gunpoint on February, 5, 2023. 
 
Police responded to the incident, which occurred at approximately 2:14 a.m. in the 400 block of Lafayette Street. The suspect, brandishing a weapon, got out of a stolen vehicle with an unidentified Black male and demanded money. When the victim didn’t have any cash, the armed suspect struck the victim in the head with the handle of the gun, and took his personal belongings. 
 
Both men fled in the vehicle, traveling west on Lafayette Street toward Merchant Street. The vehicle, reported stolen on February 5, 2023, was later recovered later. 
 
 Suspect #1 is described as a 5’8” Black male with a thin build. He was wearing a black Adidas sweatsuit with a hood. Suspect #2, not shown, is described as a Black male with a thin build. He was wearing dark-colored clothing and white Jordan sneakers. 
  
Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the suspect to call the  Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695- 8477).
