INDIANAPOLIS –On Saturday, February 11, 2023, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives arrest 21-year-old Isaiah Nasworthy for his role in a homicide which occurred just hours earlier.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on the same day, IMPD Southeast District officers responded to 1109 Worcester Ave. for a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, later identified as 33-year-old Joey Sheriff, with injuries consistent with gunshot wound(s). Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported Sheriff to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite life-saving techniques, Sheriff was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
IMPD officers arriving at the scene, immediately detained Nasworthy. Nasworthy was transported to the IMPD Homicide office for further investigation.
IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The Marion County Coroner’s Officer (MCCO) will release the decedent's names once a proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
Later the same evening, IMPD Homicide detectives arrested Nasworthy for his role in the death of Sheriff, his family member. Detectives determined the incident took place after a disturbance between the two men.
The Marion County Prosecutors office will review the case and make a final charging decision.
