Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Resident Displaced and Suffers Injuries From Apartment Fire
On Sunday February 12, 2023 at approximately 3 pm Gloucester Township Police were dispatched to the Lakeview Apartment Complex, 76 Building, for a reported apartment fire with entrapment. Officers arrived to find heavy smoke and fire from a ground floor apartment. Officers could hear a female from inside the residence. Officers gained entry, but were quickly overcome by heavy smoke and heat, forcing them to back out. Fire department personnel arrived and extinguished the fire and were able to pull the female to safety. The victim was transported to Jefferson Trauma Center City due to her injuries.
The two police officers who entered the apartment on fire were treated at a local hospital, for smoke inhalation, and released.
The fire was quickly extinguished by Gloucester Township Fire Departments and Runnemede Fire Department. The fire was contained to the original apartment, no other residents were displaced.
The fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office, Camden County Prosecutor's Office of New Jersey, and the Gloucester Township Police Investigations Bureau.
The name of the injured female is not being released until notification, to family, can be made. At the time of this press release, the fire in not considered to be suspicious.
