THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER. ...AVALANCHE WARNING IN EFFECT 5PM TUESDAY UNTIL 5PM THURSDAY...
*WHAT...The Avalanche Danger will rise to HIGH (Level 4 of 5) during Tuesday night continuing till Thursday evening. .
*WHERE...North and South San Juan Mountains including the La Garita Mountains, Rico Mountains, La Plata Mountains and areas from Telluride through Silverton to Wolf Creek Pass and the New Mexico Border. .
*WHEN... In effect from 5PM Tuesday, February 14 until 5PM on Thursday, February 16.
*IMPACTS...Heavy snow and strong winds have created dangerous avalanche conditions in the backcountry. Large and dangerous avalanches will be very easy to trigger in many places. Avalanches will run naturally.
*PRECAUTION/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Travel in backcountry avalanche terrain is not recommended. Avoid travel on and under slopes steeper than about 30 degrees. You can find more detailed information at colorado.gov/avalanche Fowler
