Don’t be a victim of a jewelry scam!
In recent years we’ve seen a rise on jewelry theft involving roadside scammers approaching a victim while on a walk. Incidents may include asking for directions, claiming it's their birthday or a special occasion, and offering prayers and/or good fortune. These scammers will ask for a hug and proceed to remove jewelry from the victim without them noticing. Here are some tips to prevent being a victim:
- Conceal any jewelry if possible
- Don’t walk alone
- Be mindful of who you approach and talk too
- Avoid hugging strangers
If you find yourself in danger call 9-1-1.
