IMPD Homicide Detectives Arrest Man for February Murder at Michigan Food Market

 Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives arrested 19-year-old Curtis Williams Thursday for his alleged involved in the death of 18-year-old Kenzel Bones.

On Saturday, February 4, 2023, just before 1:00 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Southwest District officers responded to a report of a person shot inside the Michigan Food Market located at 3801 W Michigan Street. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.  Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services arrived and determined the victim was deceased.

Homicide detectives responded and began their investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence as did a detective with IMPD’s Incident Analysis Center (IAC).
 
Homicide detectives continued their investigation and were able to identify Williams as the alleged suspect.
 
On Thursday, February 16, IMPD Homicide detectives, Southwest District Violent Crimes Task Force detectives, and Southwest District Violence Reduction Team officers conducted a search warrant in connection to this homicide.  During the search warrant, detectives located Williams, multiple firearms, including one with a machine gun conversion device (also commonly referred to as a “Glock switch”), and narcotics. 
 
Curtis Williams was arrested for Murder in connection reference the homicide on February 4. He was also arrested for Dealing in a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Dealing Marijuana, Possession of a Machine Gun, Possession of Marijuana, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance in connection with the search warrant on February 16.  The following individuals were also arrested in connection with the search warrant:

  • Ray Tipton was arrested for Dealing in a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Dealing Marijuana F6, Possession of a Machine Gun, Possession of Marijuana, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.
  • Maurice Fowler was arrested for Dealing in a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Dealing Marijuana, Possession of a Machine Gun, and Possession of Marijuana.
  • Giovanni McCullough was arrested for Dealing in a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Dealing Marijuana, Possession of a Machine Gun, and Possession of Marijuana.
  • Jasmine Sisk was arrested for Dealing Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana, and Visiting a Common Nuisance.
 
The Marion County Prosecutors Office (MCPO) will review the cases and determine the final charging decisions.

IMPD’s Interdiction Unit, the Indiana State Police, and the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force also contributed to these investigations.
