National Weather Service is predicting over 30 inches of snow for our community over the next 4 days
A series of winter storms are approaching, beginning at roughly 7 pm tonight. With very high winds and accumulating snow, the potential for dangerous conditions increases. It is crucial that we take action to prepare and stay safe. Here are some steps you can take to ensure your safety and that of your loved ones:
- Stock up on essential supplies: Make sure you have enough food, water, and medication to last for several days. Don't forget to include extra blankets, batteries, and a first-aid kit.
- Prepare for a power outage - snow build-up, high winds, and traffic accidents can all disrupt power service while severe conditions can delay repairs for days. Identify an alternative heat and cooking source and make sure you are stocked up on enough fuel for 2 weeks.
- Emergency Services may be delayed - Fallen trees and abandoned vehicles can block roadways. Actively stormy weather prevents the flight of helicopters. Plow trucks can break down, or snow may fall faster than the trucks can keep up with. If you have a serious medical need, please consider staying in town. Otherwise, make sure you have refilled any prescriptions and stocked up on any medical supplies you may need for 2 weeks.
- Frozen pipes - learn how to prevent your pipes from freezing, and have a backup supply of water for your family and your pets.
- Avoid unnecessary travel: Travel only when absolutely necessary, and leave the 2-wheel-drive car at home. It is very likely that all roads will be restricted to 4x4/chains. It is also possible that the gate may close to incoming traffic for short periods of time while plows handle Domino hill and the gate.
By taking these steps, we can all help to minimize the impact of this series of storms and ensure the safety of ourselves and our neighbors. Let's come together and be prepared for whatever the storm may bring. Stay safe!
