Avalanche Watch until 05:00AM Wednesday
The following message is transmitted at the request of the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center. A Special Avalanche Bulletin has been issued for the following areas in Idaho...Bonner County, Boundary County, Kootenai County, and Shoshone County.
*WHAT...Modest snowfall accompanied by strong winds and cold temperatures has created dangerous avalanche conditions at upper elevations. Strong winds have created wind slabs that will be easily triggered in steep terrain during the next 24 hours. Although these avalanches may not be large in size, they may be easily triggered. Avalanche conditions combined with severe wind chills will warrant conservative decision making for backcountry travelers.
*WHERE...Mountains of the Silver Valley/St Regis Basin, Kootenai National Forest and the Selkirk/West Cabinets of northern Idaho.
*WHEN...In effect from Tuesday 20:03 PST to Wednesday 20:03 PST.
*IMPACTS...Recent snowfall combined with strong winds will make human triggered avalanches likely in steep terrain.
* AFFECTED AREAS: BONNER, ID ... BOUNDARY, ID ... KOOTENAI, ID ... SHOSHONE, ID
Instructions:
Dangerous avalanche conditions. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Avalanches may be easily triggered at elevations above 5000 ft in steep and mountainous terrain. Consult http://www.idahopanhandleavalanche.org or www.avalanche.org for more detailed information. Similar avalanche danger may exist at locations outside the coverage area of this or any avalanche center.
