Officer Injured After Being Intentionally Struck with a Vehicle; Suspect Arrested
On 2/23/23 at approximately 5:46 PM Arroyo Grande Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of a possible domestic disturbance between a male and female subject in the parking lot of a business in the 1400 block of E. Grand Ave., in Arroyo Grande. When officers arrived on scene, they located the involved male and female.
Officers attempted to detain the subjects to investigate, at which time the female, later identified as 43-year-old Laura Lee Millar of Santa Maria, attempted to flee in a vehicle. While doing so, the female intentionally struck an officer with the vehicle and the left the scene. The male subject involved was detained, and later released from the scene.
A “be on the lookout” was broadcast to surrounding agencies, and Millar was located in the vehicle by California Highway Patrol officers in Buellton, a short time later. Millar was taken into custody for Penal Code subsection 245(c), Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, and was later booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
The officer was transported to a local hospital, where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and any witnesses or anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Doherty at 805-473-5121.
