The Wilmington Police have arrested a Newark man on gun charges.

On February 21 at approximately 3:05 p.m., members of the Street Crimes Unit conducted a vehicle stop in the 100 block of North Vanburen Street. Officers made contact with the driver, 34-year-old Jawan Hamilton, of Newark. Following a brief investigation, police recovered a loaded .40-caliber handgun.

Hamilton was charged with the following offenses including a traffic violation:

• Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
• Possession of a Firearm by a Person Previously Convicted of a Violent Felony
• Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
