Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports that firefighters extinguished a 2-alarm fire at 1060 Broad Street on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
 
At approximately 9:22 p.m., Newark Firefighters responded to the 8-story occupied high-rise building on a call of fire. Residents self-evacuated before firefighters arrived, and one resident was transported to St. Michael’s Medical Center for evaluation. One firefighter suffered an injury to his foot and was transported to University Hospital for treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
 
The fire was considered under control at 10:06 p.m. Eight adults were relocated by the Fire Division’s Community Relations Unit.
 
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit. #newarknj #publicsafety #firefighters #community #partnership #newjersey #fire
