Driver Arrested after Evading Officers
On Monday, February 27, 2023, at approximately 10:22 pm, a Petaluma Patrol Officer attempted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for multiple vehicle code violations. The vehicle was driving northbound on Highway 101 in the area of Old Redwood Highway when the officer positioned his patrol vehicle behind the violator’s vehicle. The officer then activated the emergency lights and siren to the patrol vehicle. The driver of vehicle (later identified as Irish McBroom, Santa Rosa) did not stop after the officer attempted the enforcement stop. McBroom continued northbound on Highway 101 from Petaluma to the area of the Todd Road exit in Santa Rosa before finally yielding to pursuing officer(s). The vehicle pursuit lasted approximately 9 miles. McBroom was taken into custody without incident. He was determined to be on active Sonoma County Probation. McBroom was later booked into the Sonoma County Jail for charges including evading (officers) and violation of probation.
Vehicle pursuits are very dangerous to the offender, the officers, and our community. The Petaluma Police Department urges everyone to follow the rules of the road and yield to the right for all emergency vehicles approaching with emergency lighting and siren activated.
