TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Street Closures Announced at McCarter Highway from Lafayette Street to Market Street
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports that streets have been temporarily closed at McCarter Highway from Lafayette Street to Market Street due to underground electrical fires in the area.
At approximately 5:50 a.m., Newark Firefighters responded to McCarter Highway and Edison Place on calls of fire emanating from manholes. Some 12 manholes were affected in the southbound direction of McCarter Highway. Some traffic lights were also affected, but no power was lost to buildings in the area. All fires are now considered under control. PSEG has responded to address underground electrical repairs.
