GTPD Media Release- Gloucester Township Police Receives National Award 2022 for National Night Out

Gloucester Township Police Department is excited to announce that Gloucester Township, New Jersey has received the "National Award 2022" in which we ranked 4th in the country and 1st in New Jersey for our participation during 2022's National Night Out for areas with a 50,000- 100,000 population.

THANK YOU to all our participating residents, community partners, and sponsors who joined us for the first NNO back since 2019 to help make this possible.

On August 2, 2022 residents throughout Gloucester Township were asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with their neighbors and police. Also, several Neighborhood Watch groups hosted a variety of special events, such as block parties, cookouts, carnivals, dessert tasting parties, and pool parties.

Visiting these many special events were: McGruff the Crime Dog along with his nephew Scruff, Police, Mayor, Council and Inspira EMS. Public locations in Gloucester Township were Blackwood Fire Company and Erial Fire Company. To conclude our night, we held a fireworks display at Gloucester Township's Veterans Park.

Chief David Harkins stated: "The Gloucester Township PD is committed to National Night Out, as it is promoting police-community partnerships. National Night Out brings our neighbors together to make their neighborhoods safer. National Night Out is another opportunity for me and my command staff to connect with the great community of Gloucester Township. I am proud of the efforts of all of those who work so hard to make the Gloucester Township National Night Out event such a tremendous success."
