Intersection CLOSED at Hwy177 (Blackwell S Main St) & Hwy60 (E North Ave). Do not go around RoadBlock Signs!
The intersection of U.S. Highway 177 (Blackwell South Main Street) and U.S. Highway 60 (E. North Avenue), in Tonkawa, is blocked. OG&E Power Crews and City of Tonkawa Electric Utility Crews are in that area to begin the rebuild of the electric system damaged by Sunday's storms. Heavy machinery and equipment are in use and work crews are present.
There are visible ROAD CLOSED signs, set up and in place, around the intersection. It is completely unsafe to travel around these signs for "through-traffic" purposes. The roadblocks are in place for a reason and the intersection is CLOSED for through traffic. This includes travel from the north, east, south, or west - toward the intersection.
Crews need to repair this portion of the power system in a safe environment and will be conducting numerous operations in this area, to do so.
The Kay County Sheriff's Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will increase patrol in the area. The Tonkawa Police Department has been requested, by these agencies, to assist in the added patrol, as well. The road closures, for through-traffic, will be strictly enforced by law enforcement and any motorist observed driving around the designated roadblocks will be cited.
Instructions:
Find alternate routes around the Hwy-60/Hwy-177 Intersection as the roads to the intersection are closed. Make plans to detour. Any motorist that drives around the ROAD CLOSED signs, for through-traffic purposes, will be cited.
