Precautionary Boil Water Advisory reminder; water distribution update

Late yesterday evening, the City of Hoboken was notified of a precautionary boil water advisory by Veolia, the operator of Hoboken’s water system, as required by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). The precautionary boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice, as testing on water samples will be conducted as soon as possible. Veolia will notify Hoboken customers when the NJDEP lifts the boil water order.

Boil water for consumption

Residents and businesses should boil their water for at least one minute for the following: washing dishes, drinking, cooking, or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, and all other consumption.

Water does not have to be boiled for the following activities: showering or washing clothes.

Water distribution update; sites remain operational 

The City of Hoboken will distribute bottled water at the Public Works Garage, on Observer Highway and Willow Avenue, starting at 7 a.m. Residents are encouraged to only take what they need. 

The City has 18 locations where drinking water is available. Residents must bring their own containers. The following is a list of locations:

  2. 15 Church Towers 
  3. 514 Madison Street 
  4. 455 Ninth Street 
  5. 12th and Shipyard Lane 
  6. 14th and Shipyard Lane 
  7. 700 First Street  
  8. 4th and Jackson 
  9. 2 Marine View Plaza 
  10. Brandt School, on 9th Street between Park Avenue and Garden Street
  11. Hoboken University Medical Center, on Clinton Street between Third and Fourth Streets.
  12. 220 Adams St.
  13. 221 Jackson St.
  14. Fox Hills, 311 13th St.   
  15. Fourth and Harrison Streets 
  16. Columbian Towers, 76 Bloomfield St. 
  17. Church Towers, 5th and Clinton Streets
  18. Hoboken Public Library, Fifth Street and Park Avenue. 
 
Municipal offices open

Municipal offices will reopen today, March 1. 

Street cleaning is suspended. 

The Irish American Heritage Month flag-raising ceremony has been postponed. A new date will be announced in the coming days. 

Recreation programs will occur as scheduled.
