Observer Highway reopened. State of Emergency & boil water advisory remain in effect. Water bottles available.

Observer Highway is now open in both directions. Street cleaning rules will resume tomorrow.   

The City's State of Emergency and boil water advisory remain in effect. 

Residents and businesses should boil their water for at least one minute for the following: drinking, cooking, baking, washing dishes, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, and all other consumption. Testing on water samples is underway. Veolia will notify Hoboken customers when the NJDEP lifts the boil water order.

Water bottles are available for pick-up at the Department of Public Works Garage (DPW) located on Willow Avenue between Observer Highway and Newark Street until 10 p.m. tonight. The distribution will resume at 8 A.M. tomorrow. Residents are encouraged to only take what they need.

While there have been 18 water distribution locations set up for drinkable water, the City has started consolidating them based on usage and demand. Residents must bring their own containers. Below is an updated list of locations that will remain open overnight and into tomorrow:

  2. 400 First Street
  3. 700 First Street 
  4. 221 Jackson St. 
  5. 2 Marine View Plaza
  6. Fourth & Harrison Streets 
  7. Church Towers, 5th & Clinton  
  8. 514 Madison Street
  9. 455 Ninth Street
  10. Fox Hills, 311 13th St.
  11. 14th & Shipyard Lane
  12. Hoboken Public Library, 5th Street and Park Ave

The following six locations of water buffalos will be removed as they are emptied: 
  1. 15 Church Towers
  2. 12th Street and Shipyard Lane 
  3. Fourth and Jackson Streets
  4. Brandt School 
  5. HUMC (Clinton Street Side) 
  6. 220 Adams Street   
The City will continue to flush fire hydrants overnight to stabilize pressure within the water system. If you see water coming out of hydrants overnight or tomorrow, be assured, this is intentional.  Despite these efforts, there may still be fluctuations in water pressure which can cause future water main breaks as the system stabilizes. 

The following hydrants will be opened and intentionally flushed:
 -Jefferson St, Close to 15th St.
- Grand St, close to 3rd St.
- Willow and 8th
- 9th St, close to Monroe St.
- Jefferson St, close to 5th St
- 1st St, close to Madison St

Now that water is restored, the 14 porta johns set up throughout the City will be removed from service tomorrow morning, starting at 7 A.M. The locations are:  
  1. Columbian Towers (76 Bloomfield St.)  
  2. 400 First Street  
  3. 220 Adams St. 
  4. 221 Jackson St.
  5. Hoboken University Medical Center (Clinton Street between Third and Fourth Streets)
  6. Fourth and Harrison Street
  7. 15 Church Towers 
  8. Church Towers, 5th and Clinton Streets  
  9. 514 Madison Street  
  10. 455 Ninth Street  
  11. 11th and Shipyard Lane  
  12. 14th and Shipyard Lane  
  13. Fox Hills (311 13th St.)   
  14. YMCA, 1300 Washington St.  
The community meeting on the revitalization of the Multi-Service Center scheduled for tomorrow, March 2, has been postponed. The in-person meeting has been rescheduled for March 9 at 6 P.M. at the Multi-Service Center at 124 Grand St.
