This past Monday and Tuesday, Mayor Ras J. Baraka hosted the National League of Cities Mayoral Network on Community Safety and Violence Prevention. Mayors from across the country convened in Newark to learn how Newark has reimagined public safety in a manner that allows for trauma informed policies and collaboration with community partners. During the visit, Mayors had the opportunity to hear from City officials, community partners, as well as attend a site visit at Newark Street Academy.  Mayor Baraka and the City’s partners, including Public Safety Director Fritz Frage, stressed the importance of collaborative work in order to establish best practices in cities across the country. Only when we work together and humanize public safety efforts can we truly begin to tackle crime.
