Advisory

Prepare for Winter Weather Conditions, Heavy Wet Snow, Earlier Waste Pickup

A rain/snow mix starting in the late morning on Friday will be followed by a heavy wet snow in the afternoon, especially affecting the evening commute, before diminishing to flurries after 8PM.  Burr Ridge is still under a Winter Storm Watch by the National Weather Service and could see 3”-6” of heavy wet snow, but the Weather Service states there is a high amount of uncertainty regarding this storm and a drastic spread of potential impacts could occur.  This means that our area could experience mostly rainfall by some forecast models, while other models predict significantly greater snow accumulation.  The Village is planning for the worst conditions and taking appropriate actions.

Groot waste pickup on Friday will start earlier at 6:00AM.  For areas north of 79th Street, place your waste receptacles by the street an hour earlier for Groot to pick up ahead of the storm.  Residents can check the company’s website at www.groot.com or download the Groot App to stay informed of scheduling changes.

The Burr Ridge Police Department reminds everyone that on-street parking will be prohibited after more than 2” of snow has accumulated.  Vehicles should park in garages or driveways – and be locked – until roadways are clear.  Please remind visitors, service providers, and contractors to keep their vehicles off the streets.

Our Public Works Department is monitoring the storm and will operate snowplow trucks and treat roadways continuously until roadways are cleared.  Please remove your waste containers promptly from the roadsides so our trucks can work more effectively.  Also refrain from blowing, shoveling or plowing snow onto the roadway.

Shoveling heavy wet snow requires physical exertion; residents are reminded to be cautious and pay attention to your health risks.  Also, please assist any neighbors who may need help clearing their driveways, sidewalks, mailboxes, and fire hydrants.

If you need medical assistance or have an emergency, please call 9-1-1.  To report a damaged mailbox, call 630-654-8181 and your issue will be addressed after our Public Works crews have completed the snow and ice control operations.  Please continue to monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local news outlets for timely information from the National Weather Service.
