On Saturday, March 4, 2023, at approximately 11:37 pm, an officer with the Petaluma Police Department made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation. The vehicle yielded to officers in the area of Kentucky Street and Mary Street (Downtown Petaluma). The officer contacted the driver, Andy Martinez (22) and a passenger, Santino Morales (23). A records check revealed Morales was on active Sonoma County Probation for a prior firearms possession charge.
 
Due to the Morales’ probation status, officers conducted a search of the vehicle. A loaded handgun was located under the passenger’s seat. In addition to the firearm located under the seat, a second loaded handgun was located concealed on Martinez’s person (in his waistband). Both Morales and Martinez were identified as Santa Rosa residents. In summary, officers were told they (Morales and Martinez) had come to Petaluma to have a ‘drink’ at one of the downtown Petaluma bars.
 
Martinez and Morales were both arrested on multiple gun charges. Martinez’s charges included possession of a concealed firearm and possession of a loaded firearm. Morales’ charges included felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of a loaded firearm, felon in possession of a concealed firearm, and violation of his felony probation. Both Martinez and Morales were booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
