INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon
LOCATION: 6400 Block of Mariposa Avenue, Twentynine Palms
SUSPECT(S): Dennis Morales, 49-year-old male resident of Twentynine Palms
Julian Medina, 20-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms
VICTIM(S): 22-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms
34-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms
SUMMARY: On March 6, 2023, at approximately 12:09 a.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Station responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm at another person. As deputies arrived on scene, a pickup truck was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The truck struck a bystander, causing minor injuries. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver failed to yield, leading deputies on a short pursuit, The vehicle drove through a backyard, causing a large amount of damage. After a short foot pursuit, the driver was caught. The driver was identifed as Julian Medina, a 20-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms.
At the incident location, it was found that one of the suspects pointed a high powered, replica air pistol at the victim. The victim defended himself and was able to incapacitate the suspect. The suspect who pointed the air pistol at the victim was identified as Dennis Morales, a 49-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms. Both suspects were arrested and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail on multiple felony charges.
