Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally when uranium and radium break down in the soil and rock formations. Radon gas moves up through the soil and finds its way into the homes through cracks in the foundation and openings around pumps, pipes, and drains. Testing is the only way to know if you and your family are at risk from radon. Radon testing is easy, test results are kept confidential, and problems can be mitigated.

A limited supply of free radon test kits is available to Byram Township homeowners, based on a first come, first served basis. Radon information and test kits are available at the Municipal Building in the Board of Health Dept.,10 Mansfield Drive, Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 1^st during the Rabies Clinic, hours 1-4 p.m. while supplies last.

Residents are encouraged to contact the Township Health Department office at 973-347-2500 x125 to check availability or to request educational materials.
