On 02/28/2023 at approximately 8:35 PM, officers from the Petaluma Police Department Community Impact Response Team (CIRT) contacted and arrested a wanted felon, Richard Crandall in conjunction with a lengthy investigation into potential narcotic sales at his residence.
Early in the investigation, CIRT officers obtained information that controlled substances, specifically Fentanyl, were possibly being sold out of a residence on West Street in Petaluma. On 02/24/2023, CIRT officers conducted a probation compliance check on Crandall at his residence in the 100 block of West Street. During the search, a bag containing approximately 3 ounces of suspected Fentanyl. Along with the Fentanyl, ammunition, drug paraphernalia and other evidence were also located. Crandall is prohibited from possessing firearms or associated ammunition. At the time, Crandall was not at the scene. A subsequent search warrant was authored in conjunction with this investigation, seeking additional evidence.
On 02/28/2023, CIRT officers returned to West Street after learning that Crandall was at the residence. CIRT made contact with Crandall and arrested him for the above listed charges. During the arrest, additional evidence of narcotic sales was located. He was then transported to the Sonoma County Jail where he was booked for the above listed charges.
The Community Impact Response Team is specifically designed for responding to on-going crimes and issues that impact the overall wellness of the community. Like many other regions in the country, Fentanyl continues to plague Petaluma and its neighboring jurisdictions by taking lives and hospitalizing countless others. Our CIRT officers are designed to complete lengthier investigations such as this one in an effort to improve the quality of life of our community and make impactful arrests that patrol officers can’t dedicate themselves to. Since its inception, CIRT has made several similar arrests in effort to stem illegal narcotic sales in the Petaluma area.
