INCIDENT: Subject Arrested for Theft of a Snow Plow and Numerous Weapons Violations
LOCATION: 39707 Big Bear Blvd, Big Bear Lake, CA
SUSPECT(S): Jonathan Hernandez, 35-year-old Resident of San Dimas, CA
VICTIM(S): Confidential, State of California
SUMMARY: On March 4, 2023, deputies were notified a city of Big Bear Lake skid steer snow plow was stolen from City Hall. The subject forced entry into a secured snow plow and drove off in the equipment. Deputies were provided GPS data of the snow plow and located the equipment. Jonathan Hernandez was found inside the snow plow and arrested for grand theft. Additionally, Hernandez was found to have an active felony warrant for his arrest.
Deputies were later contacted by hotel staff where Hernandez was temporarily staying and were advised Hernandez failed to check out. Hotel staff went inside the room to remove Hernandez's property and located two rifles and live ammunition. Deputies responded and found the rifles had numerous weapons violations and were not California compliant. Deputies authored a search warrant for Hernandez's vehicle and located an additional loaded handgun.
Hernandez was booked into custody at the Big Bear Jail for PC 487(A) - Grand Theft and numerous weapons violations. He was later transferred to the West Valley Detention Center. Hernandez is currently being held on $60,000 bail. Hernandez's next court date is scheduled for March 13, 2023, in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
