El Cerrito Police Department blotter February 26th to March 4th

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from February 26th to March 4th, 2023.

February 26th
Stolen Vehicle- 10636 San Pablo Ave (24 Hour Fitness) 
An officer reported, at 9:00 PM, the victim left his wallet and keys in an unsecured locker while he went to work out. At 11:45 PM, the victim returned to the locker and discovered an unknown suspect went into his locker and stole his property. The suspects then stole the victim’s vehicle from the parking lot.

February 27th
Petty Theft – 500 block of Central Ave.
The victim’s bicycle was stolen from their patio area from 9pm on the 26th to 7:30am on the 27th. The victim had placed an Apple Air Tag on the bike frame, and located their bike in the City Richmond. 

Trespassing – Nation’s 6060 Central Ave.
At approximately 9:16am an officer responded to an unwanted subject inside the restaurant, who was yelling at staff, and refusing to leave.  The subject was asked to leave by the officer, but still refused.  The subject was placed under citizens arrest for trespassing.  The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.  

Grand Theft – 6400 block of Hagen Blvd.
At approximately 1:20pm, the victim’s catalytic converter was stolen from their vehicle.  The three unknown suspects fled in a vehicle.
 
Grand theft of Catalytic Converter – 6700 Block of Cutting Blvd. 
At 9:22 PM ECPD officers took a report of a catalytic converter theft that occurred sometime overnight between 1800 hours on 2/26/23 and 0800 hours on 2/27/23.
 
Grand Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24hr Fitness) 
At 9:54 PM the victim reported he left his cellphone in the bathroom.  When the victim realized he forgot his phone, he returned and the phone had been stolen. 
 
February 28th 


March 1st
Evading Police – Hill St. at San Pablo Ave
At approximately 8:29am, officers attempted to stop a vehicle where the driver brandished a knife and attempted to run over citizens in the Home Depot parking lot.  The vehicle fled from officers and was last seen on San Pablo Ave at Cutting Blvd.   

Possession of a Firearm on School Campus/Battery on a School Official/Brandishing a Weapon – El Cerrito High School 540 Ashbury Ave.  
At approximately 10:37am, officers responded to a report of a student on campus with a gun.  The student struck a staff member before fleeing the campus.  Another student attempted to intervene, but the suspect brandished a black handgun in his waistband, at the other student.  The suspect was arrested by ECPD officers the following day and transported to Juvenile Hall.    
 
Indecent Exposure –6050 El Cerrito Plaza (Barnes and Noble)
At approximately 11:21am, the suspect followed the victim into the store, exposed himself.

Possession of Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia – 10900 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 12:47pm, the suspect came into the police department lobby and wanted to self-commit himself for a mental health evaluation.  The subject was found to be in possession of methamphetamines and a pipe used to smoke methamphetamines.  The subject was transported to the hospital by ambulance for a psychiatric evaluation.      

Shoplifting – 5805 Cutting Blvd (Sketchers) 
At 6:05 PM a suspect entered the store and selected 3 pairs of shoes.  The suspect paid for one pair and attempted to return the other 2.  After being denied the return, the suspect left the store with all 3 pairs of shoes.
 
Drunk in Public – 11821 San Pablo Ave (McDonalds) 
At 11:21 PM officers were dispatched to a possible commercial burglary.  The suspect forced open the locked lobby doors and entered the business.  The suspect refused to leave and was looking for his phone.  The suspect was highly intoxicated and arrested.  There was no property damage to the business and no burglary.  The suspect was transported to MDF.

March 2nd 
Vandalism – 400 block of Albemarle Ave.
At 4:14pm, the victim’s rear windshield to their parked vehicle was shattered with an unknown object. 

 Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Bayview Ave
During a traffic stop, the driver was arrested for two outstanding warrants and transported to MDF.

March 3rd 
Colusa Ave./Terrace Dr. 
At 9:45 PM, an officer was dispatch to a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway with an unresponsive driver. Upon arrival, officers noticed the driver, appeared to be breathing, but not responding to officers knocking on the window.  After several attempts, officers were able to get the driver to wake up. During the investigation, officers determined the driver was under the influence of a controlled substance. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.  After the completion of the DUI investigation, the driver was released on a citation.
