Green Bay Police Department Dive Team Recovers Body from East River

The Green Bay Police Department Dive Team recovered a 47-year-old deceased male from the East River near the 1400 block of E. Walnut Street on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:00 a.m. following the report of a passerby who claimed to have seen a backpack next to a hole on the ice by the foot bridge along the East River Trail.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department also responded to the call for rescue and recovery efforts and remained on scene to assist the Dive Team for the duration of the incident.

The body was recovered from the water just before 10:15 a.m. by the Dive Team and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the scene.

The identity of the victim will not be released until next of kin is notified.

The initial investigation currently does not indicate foul play.
