IMPD Aggravated Assault Detectives make Arrest in Overnight Shooting that left a Victim in Critical Condition.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Aggravated Assault detectives identified and later arrested 38-year-old Christopher Middlebrook for his alleged involvement in the overnight Belhaven Dr. shooting investigation.

On Sunday, March 12, 2023, just after 6:00 p.m., IMPD East District officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Belhaven Dr. to investigate a report of a person shot.  Upon arrival, officers located an adult male lying in the parking lot of this location with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital in critical condition. Officers located Middlebrook inside an apartment at this location with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Middlebrook was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

Due to the victim’s condition IMPD Aggravated Assault and homicide detectives arrived on scene to further the investigation.  Detectives were able to identify all involved parties. Within hours of the initial investigation, detectives placed Middlebrook custody without further incident. Preliminary information suggests an argument between the parties ensued before the shooting incident occurred.

Middlebrook was arrested for attempted murder.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) will review the case and make the final charging decisions.
