Sutton County Judge Jody Harris been monitoring the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) daily, which is also used by the Texas Forest Service (TFS) to help determine the drought conditions throughout the State of Texas.  KBDI is based on a daily water balance, where a drought factor is balanced with precipitation and soil moisture (assumed to have a maximum storage capacity of 8-inches) and is expressed in hundredths of an inch of soil moisture depletion.  After careful consideration, Judge Harris found that the current drought conditions currently present in Sutton County pose an immediate public safety hazard, which would be exacerbated by outdoor burning at this time.  Therefore, Judge Harris have issued the attached “Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning”, effective as of 10:00 am, March 8th, 2023.  The order will be placed on the Sutton County Commissioners Court Agenda for March 13th, 2023, and presented to the Commissioners for adoption. A copy of the attached order is posted on the bulletin board at the Sutton County Annex, 300 E.
