Winter Weather Advisory In Effect Until Wednesday Morning
In anticipation of tomorrow's storm, the New Castle Police are asking our residents to avoid unnecessary travel. This will keep the roads open for emergency responders, DPW, and utility workers. It also allows vehicles that are already on the road to reach their destinations.
In the event of life-threatening emergencies, dial 911.
To report downed wires, road blockages, and non-life-threatening issues, contact (914) 238-4422. Treat all downed wires as if they are live. Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by tree limbs, leaves, etc.
Please do not call the Police if you lose power. Calling the Police to report a power loss only serves to tie up emergency telephone lines and you will be referred to contact Con Edison directly at 1-800-75-CONED. Calling Con Edison directly enters your power loss into their computerized database. You can also report outages, view the outage map, and check outage status at www.conEd.com.
Con Edison would also like us to encourage their customers to sign up for text alerts. You can use your cell phone to text REG to OUTAGE (688243) and follow the prompts. You'll need your account number and to confirm your zip code. To retrieve your account number, log in to My Account or check your bill. This information is also located on their website at www.coned.com/text.
If you plan on using a generator, make sure it is being used safely. Do not run a portable generator in your home or business; keep it outside and away from the house so that the exhaust does not cause anyone to become sick.
Keep combustible materials away from the generator and, when refueling, turn it off and let it cool down.
Make sure you are prepared and stay safe during the storm. New York State provides a full list of emergency supplies for your home and vehicles.
We would also like residents not to leave vehicles parked on the street overnight. Vehicles may be summonsed or towed if they hinder DPW operations: “No vehicle shall be parked, stored or left standing unattended by a person capable of operating it on any street or highway at any time between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. during the period between the first day of November and the first day of April.”
The New Castle Police Department maintains a voluntary list of people who may require additional help and would like to be checked on during extreme weather.
If you or someone you know would like to be added to this list, call (914) 238-4422.
If you have not already done so, sign up for Nixle at https://local.nixle.com/register/ or text your zip code to 88877 for mobile-only alerts, and sign up for CodeRED at https://public.coderedweb.com/cne/en-US/BFB7CC4C6C0A.
