SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Hit and Run/Pedestrian Crash

On Monday, March 13, 2023 at approximately 9:55 P.M., deputies responded to a traffic crash in which a pedestrian was struck, and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The crash occurred on Youngman Road north of Carson City Road in Eureka Township.
The crash was witnessed by Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services personnel who were in the area for a prior medical call. The victim of the crash, an 86-year-old Greenville man, was crossing the street to assist MCEMS staff in gaining entry into the nearby home where the medical call was. As the man crossed the road, he stumbled and fell backward causing him to be struck by a north bound vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene. MCEMS crews immediately begin treatment for the man’s injuries which, although severe, were non-life threating. The man was transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids by MCEMS for further treatment. The nearby resident needing medical assistance was treated at their residence.
The involved vehicle was described as a late model, dark colored, sports utility vehicle.
