The Oakland Police Department (OPD) arrested an individual on March 11, 2023, responsible for the robbery of a 78-year-old elderly person.
On March 9, 2023, just after 1:30 PM, two individuals with fraudulent intentions approached an elderly person in the 4000 block of MacArthur Boulevard. The individuals asked the victim for a large sum of money for charity. The victim withdrew thousands of dollars in cash from their bank account. After providing the cash to the individuals, they quickly walked away and entered an awaiting vehicle occupied by a third person. The victim immediately realized this was a scam.
In an attempt to get their money back, the victim followed the individuals into the vehicle. As the vehicle took off, the victim was dragged alongside the vehicle before falling onto the roadway. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.
Two days later, Patrol officers located the vehicle in the 5100 block of E 12th Street and arrested an individual in connection with the robbery.
A robbery call-out was initiated and OPD Investigators responded to the scene for the follow-up investigation.
