STORM ALERT UPDATE AS OF MARCH 15 EDITED AT 1:15 PM*

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE UPDATE  

Drier conditions will develop today (3/15) and tomorrow (3/16), however, light rainfall is expected for this weekend. Given the saturated soil and recent rains, we urge the community to continue to be aware of their surroundings. 

Advisories/Warnings: At this time, there are no watches, warnings, or advisories forecasted by the National Weather Service. 

The city of Los Altos has activated its Emergency Operations Center starting Wednesday, March 15. Staff across the City is working around the clock, monitoring weather conditions to ensure a safe and swift response. 
 

WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGE*

Most of Los Altos remains without power at this time. PG&E is working to restore power as quickly as possible. While no exact time has been given to have power fully restored to the area, PG&E is estimating between Thursday, March 16 to Saturday, March 18 by 10 PM to have power back on.  

  • Do not call 911 to report a power outage. These lines need to remain open for life-threatening emergencies only.
  • Treat intersections with no power as a four-way stop.

ROAD CLOSURES 

PG&E, Santa Clara County Fire, and Los Altos Police have road closures placed throughout Los Altos. Do not move or drive through the barricades; these barricades are blocking roads with downed lines (possibly live wires) and trees. Roads will continue to open or close as crews move through the area.  

Current Road Closures in these Areas:  

  • Arboretum Drive Road between Farm Road and Sequoia Drive. Road closed signage posted with detours to go around the closure (Pinecrest Drive to Beechwood Lane to Sequoia Drive). 
  • Southbound San Antonio Road/Maynard Way 
  • Rosita Avenue/Parma Way 
  • Miguel Avenue/Peninsular Avenue 
  • San Antonio Road/Pepper Drive/Eleanor Avenue 
  • Covington Road/Bellevue Court/Campbell Avenue 

WHO TO CALL FOR HELP  

  • For any life-threatening emergency, call 911.
  • For downed lines or wires, call 911 immediately and then PG&E at 1 (800) 743-5002. 
  • For storm-related hazards like a fallen tree or street sign, plugged storm drain, or traffic signal outage, call (650) 947-2785. After-hours calls can be directed to the Police Department’s 24/7 non-emergency line at (650) 947-2770.  
  • For trees on your property leaning into power lines, call PG&E proactively at 1 (800) 743-5002.
