IMPD is Proud to Announce that Lt. Lindsey Terry of the Criminal Investigations Division Has Graduated from the FBI National Academy

INDIANAPOLIS- IMPD is Proud to Announce that Lt. Lindsey Terry of the Criminal Investigations Division has graduated from the 285th FBI National Academy Session.

I am confident the knowledge and experience she has gained will benefit Indianapolis residents, through her service to the community," said IMPD Chief Randal Taylor. "Her graduation marks self-improvement for Lindsey and an opportunity for IMPD to receive her leadership skills."

The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement managers nominated by agency heads because of demonstrated leadership qualities. The 10-week program—which provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science—serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide (FBI.gov).

The National Academy was created as the "FBI Police Training School" in 1935 in response to the 1930 Wickersham Commission report recommending standardization and professionalization of law enforcement in the United States through centralized training. At the time, courses included scientific aids in crime detection, preparation of reports, criminal investigation techniques, and administration and organization. Studies on espionage and sabotage were offered as World War II began.

Lieutenant Lindsey Terry is a 20-year veteran of IMPD. She is currently assigned as the supervisor for the Sex Crimes Unit. Before her promotion to lieutenant, she served as a sergeant in the role of Executive Officer to the Deputy Chief of Administration and was the Community Relations Unit sergeant on North District. As a patrol officer, she was assigned to West District late shift, North District middle shift, a detective in the Sex Crimes Unit, and a Community Relations officer for North District.

Lt. Terry is a graduate of the IMPD Leadership Academy and has served as a mentor to Leadership Academy participants. Lt. Terry earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Ball State University. While at the FBI National Academy, Lt. Terry earned a graduate certificate from the University of Virginia. Lt. Terry plans to pursue a master's degree from the University of Virginia.

Lt. Terry loves spending time with her amazing wife and kids outside of work. Lt. Terry is married to IMPD Commander Tanya Terry, who is also an FBI National Academy graduate (#281). They have 13-year-old twins, Keegan and Eleanor.

Please join us in welcoming back and congratulating Lt. Lindsey Terry!
