Homicide Detectives Make Arrest in January Homicide Investigation with Assistance from IMPD Violent Crime Unit

Homicide detectives arrested 19-year-old, Clyde Johnson, for his alleged involvement in a January homicide.

On Tuesday, January 2, 2023, shortly after 7:30 pm, IMPD North District officers were dispatched to 6020 E 82nd Street on a report of a person shot.  When officers arrived, they located an adult male and juvenile male, later identified as Michael Mason Jr., with injuries consistent with gunshot wound(s) in the parking lot. IMPD officers provided medical aid to both victims.  IEMS arrived and transported both victims to St. Vincent Hospital. The adult was listed in stable condition and Mason was transported in critical condition. Unfortunately, Mason was later pronounced deceased.

Officers detained a person of interest later identified as Clyde Johnson at the scene, and he was cooperating with detectives.  Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation.  Everyone involved in the incident were identified and accounted for.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office was consulted throughout the investigation. A warrant was issued for Johnson’s arrest on March 15, 2023. On March 16, 2023, IMPD Violent Crime Unit located Johnson without further incident. He was arrested on a charge of voluntary manslaughter.
