Update & Information Regarding Recent Rainstorms and River Flow for the Corcoran Area

Recent rainstorms, heavy river flows, and a significant snowpack, all have placed Corcoran at some risk of flooding.  City staff are actively monitoring the situation, and working closely with neighboring agencies to evaluate area flooding.  Currently, the risk of flooding in the City of Corcoran is low.

A tremendous effort is underway by many agencies to manage water flow.  As the snowpack melts on into spring, the threat of flooding will continue to exist and we will share information as it becomes available.

Although the threat of flooding is currently low in the City of Corcoran, some basic preparation for potential flooding can be helpful.  The Corcoran Police Department is in the process of putting plans in place ensure that we maintain emergency response capabilities and have resources available.

We will continue to send out Nixle alerts as information is updated and available.  In the meantime, here are some preparations that can be done now to help protect your family and homes:

Purchase Flood Insurance — In most cases you must have flood insurance for 30 days before it takes effect.

Safeguard Your Possessions — Keep a copy of your insurance policies and a list of all household items in a waterproof container.

Develop a Family Emergency Plan — Create an emergency preparedness kit and household evacuation plan, including a place to meet in case of evacuation.

More information on how to prepare for a flood can be found at the American Red Cross website; http://www.redcross.org/get-help/prepare-for-emergencies/types-of-emergencies/flood

Please take precautions and reach out to friends and neighbors who may need help preparing for potential flooding.
If you see any flooding on roadways or bridges, or any canals, levees or other waterways collapsing, please contact Corcoran PD, or if outside of Corcoran the appropriate jurisdiction, immediately to alert us so that we can activate a response.
