INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: 32100 Block of Yucaipa Blvd, Yucaipa, CA
SUSPECT(S):
VICTIM(S): Behrooz Akabari, 40-year-old Resident of Redlands
SUMMARY: On Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 7:14 P.M., a call for service was received through Sheriff’s Dispatch of a single car rollover accident on Yucaipa Blvd., east of 16th St.
Deputies responded to the accident along with rescue personnel from Yucaipa Fire Department and American Medical Response. Deputies arrived at the scene and found two children, who were in the vehicle, sitting on the curbline. The driver was declared deceased at the scene.
Deputies S. Theis and P. Tormey with the Yucaipa Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) responded and assumed the investigation. Initial investigation and witness statements revealed the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed westbound on Yucaipa Blvd. The vehicle lost control, hit the north curb-line of Yucaipa Blvd. and skidded until it hit an electric pole, shearing it. The vehicle flipped and rolled up an embankment where it came to rest.
Yucaipa City Yards was notified, and the following roadway was closed to traffic while the investigation was underway, westbound Yucaipa Blvd. at 14th St., and eastbound Yucaipa Blvd. at 16th St. The roadway remained closed until Southern California Edison completed its repairs on downed powerlines.
The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this collision or anyone who may have been a witness is asked to contact Deputy P. Tormey or Deputy S. Theis at the Yucaipa Police Station.
