Emergency personnel are working to contain a wildfire off Locust Cove Rd. No threat to the public at this time. 
Emergency crews are working to contain a wildfire that is burning north of Locust Cove Rd. off NC 80 in Marion. The wildfire was reported shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night. The fire has burned an estimated 75 plus acres as of 2:00 p.m. on Friday. No structures are threatened at this time and no injuries have occurred. Agencies that have responded to this incident include PG, Old Fort, Marion, Crooked Creek, Sugar Hill, Ashford North Cove, Woodlawn, Hankins, Dysartsville fire departments, McDowell Rescue, McDowell EMS, McDowell Emergency Management, NC Emergency Management, NC Forest Service and US Forest Service.
Motorists traveling NC 80 should use caution and be alert for drift smoke as well as emergency vehicles and personnel working in the area.
